Manage Collections

This topic describes how to manage your collections on Zilliz Cloud, including how to create, drop, and search for collections, as well as checking out your list of collections and their schemas.

You can access all collection-related operations in any individual database page. To do that, go to Projects > Your Project > Your Database and you’ll see Collections as an available option in the database navigation tabs.

Create a collection

To create a collection, click Create Collection. You need to enter a name, a schema, and an optional description for the collection.

Define a schema

You must assign a primary key field and a vector field for any collection. Add more fields by clicking Add new field at the bottom of the dialog. All fields need to have a type and a name.

The primary key field supports INT64 and VARCHAR only, and the vector field supports BINARY_VECTOR and FLOAT_VECTOR only.

The primary key field has Auto ID turned on by default, which enables automatic ID allocation for the primary key. If you want to disable the function, click on the green Auto ID switch.

Supported data types

NameDescription
BINARY_VECTORBinary vector. Vector field only.
BOOLEANBoolean value.
DOUBLE8-byte floating-point.
FLOAT4-byte floating-point.
FLOAT_VECTORFloat vector. Vector field only.
INT88-bit integer.
INT3232-bit integer.
INT6464-bit integer.
VARCHARVariable character.

Check collection details

In the Collections tab, you can see a list of collections that you have in the current database, including information about name, status, description, and created time. You can also search for a specific collection by its name in the search bar.

Check the schema

To see the schema of a collection, click the name of the collection in the Collections tab. You can see information about field names, field types, dimensions, and descriptions. The primary key is indicated by a golden key symbol by its name.

Delete a collection

Deleting a collection irreversibly deletes all data contained.

To delete a collection, select it and click Delete.

You now need to confirm the action by entering the collection’s name. If you are sure about this deletion, click Delete again. The collection will then be deleted.
